Ok...I think this issue was covered vaguely in another thread, but I dont think it applies to me, My computer recently had the c/windows/system32/config error, and i tried to boot from the CD. When i booted up from the CD and it loaded up the Welcome to setup screen that allows me to repair the error, I could not press R because my usb keyboard died on me. The keyboard was working in other parts preceding this part of the setup but as soon as it reaches this stage my media buttons light up but my caps lock and num lock dont light up when i press them non of the other options work as well (ENTER=EXIT, F3=QUIT). My keyboard is USB and my CPU has no other plug ports to connect with keyboards of that nature. Could you please help me with this situation?....any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Sherifflobo,

Can you check on the following areas

A)Go into your BIOS of the computer.Check for USB controller and enable it.Or go to the BIOS and check "LOAD BIOS DEFAULTS"

B)Try to use a PS2 keyboard if possible

C)Try to use a different USB keyboard.

D)Sometimes..during windows setup,USB keyboards won't get recongnised nor work.PS2 keyboards work.

These are the areas where I can shed light on.

Hope it helps.Post your reply !

Ok, XpUser, when the components start talking to me, I get a bit freaked out...I think the last time they spoke (in little whispers) was when I was trying for hours to get an old 486 to recognize just a 3Gb hard drive...

PS/2.....nyuck

Go into BIOS and see if there is a USB Legacy device setting, or any settings for USB keyboard, mouse. If so, enable it.

well everything in the bios checks out...The USB and everything is enabled. In fact the keyboard works prior to that welcome to setup screen.......once it loads it screws up
