Hi everyone!
I have just bought PC133 512Mb RAM (Double sided), I installed it alone and it runs ok. But when I add another 256 MB PC133 Double sided stick, only 384 MB are recognized. I have tried to change slots, etc but no results. My motherboard is a Gigabyte 7ZXE, which supports up to 1.5 GB. I have also tried with other sticks, for example: I added a 32MB stick and it showed 288MB. It seems to "downgrade" the 512MB stick to 256MB when I add another stick, but it works fine alone. Incompatibility issue?

Thanx in advance

Look at this link www.crucial.com. It's a very good site for RAM issues.

Read your manual or go to the Gigabyte website. You've exceeded the number of banks (3 banks of 1)

What do you mean with "exceed the number of banks"?. There are three banks and only 2 of them used. I'm sorry but i have read my motherboard manual and everything seems to be all right. I'm a little bit confused about this...

3 banks of 1. Generally, single sided RAM uses one bank...double sided RAM uses 2 banks.

You have 2 double sided sticks installed, so you have 4 banks...2 in one slot, 2 in the other. But since the board can only read 3, it's reading the full capacity of one stick & 1/2 capacity of the other.

The only way to use all 3 slots (3 banks of 1) would be to install 3 sticks of SINGLE sided RAM.
