one day when i turned off my computer i wasn't
able to turn it on again, it would just go on for a
split second and then die. i thought it was the
motherboard, so i pluggged it to another PSU and
it worked. so i thought i could be the PSU, but
when i plugged the PSU to another motherboard
it worked. what can be the problem here?

The original PSU may be defecive or inadequate.

Or, something else may be wrong and it failed will running the original PSU.

ive used this PSU for quite some time now, it was
part of my whole system and then i replaced
everything, creating my new computer. so now i
have two computers. this PSU here works, i've
tested it on my main computer, my amd 3200, but
on my secondary computer(amd 1700) it wont
boot. and the motherboard is fine cuz i got it to
boot with the PSU from my main PC

I had to replace one that intermitently would do the same thig as yours.
when unplugged and resat power cable it would start up again then it wouldn't.
and when i unplugged the cd rom or the secondary hdd it would work fine.
my problem was adding my new amd 64 board, video card, onto a 400 watt ps when i needed at least a 500 or better

if your saying that my powersupply isnt supplying enough power, this powersupply has been working on this computer for a very long time. all i understand is that after an overnight run and shutting it off, it would never run again(with that psu)

All mechanical and electrical equipment wears out eventually. Get over it and get a new PSU. You've already figured out the problem. It was just a matter of when.

You don't HAVE to buy a new PSU. Just if you want to use that machine. That's your call.
