ok, i have a NEC FR991 19' monitor that i got from a friend. We're trying to figure out if this is fixable and not have so send in for another monitor (its a hassle). Anyway, heres the problem, the monitor starts up fine and runs perfectly for about 10-20 mins, then the screen dissapears except for a little white streak across the middle of the monitor.... the image is still there we think because when we move the mouse we can see the line flicker a little bit.. but get this, i tried this out as an experiment and it seemed to work... i used a box fan, put it on high, set it next to the monitor and it runs fine and it never happens again. I was just trying to find out the origin of this problem and maybe we can fix it ourselves when we know that. thanks a lot

There are capacitors inside that pack a deadly bite. A monitor is not really a self serviceable unit.
BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!

Your best bet would be to put a 120mm or 92mm fan on top of the monitor. DO NOT OPEN THE MONITOR! If you just put it on top with some stickytape or something like that with the fan blowing air inside the vents, it should be just fine. You may need to get a molex cord extender so the fan can run off your PSU.
