Can somebody please help.
I had a 256MB DDR 2100 ram in my GIgabyte 7dxr+ motherboard. I somehow managed to break one of the connectors rendering the ram useless. I inserted 128mb stick and had no problems.
Deciding to increase ram, I purchased 256mb ddr 2100 stick but pc refuses to start.
I hear a single bleep every few seconds.
I have since required another 256mb stick (same make as 128) but same problem.
My PC refuses to boot with 256 but 128 gives me no problems at all.
Can somebody please help.
This is driving me bonkers.

Sounds like you broke the motherboard in addition to the ram. Under warranty?

Is the RAM compatable? You may have gotten two sticks that don't work with your chipset. I would stay away from ECC if you want to get the most compatability.

Also, are you booting with BOTH sticks? Try just one or the other. Or switch the slots they are in. Often times, putting a 128 in DIMM0 and 256 in DIMM1 won't work, but switching them boots fine. Play around, but make absolutely sure they are seated correctly.

There are also some large sticks (especailly cheap ones) that just don't work well with some computers. I would recommend getting two 128's or maybe even a 512.

Good luck.

If I understand correctly the pc would originally boot with a 256 DDr 2100 stick.
That you are getting a single beep is the answer the memory is defective. Replace the memory.
