Ok so my external hdd's port broke so i took it apart and got the labtop-like harddrive out of the casing. the stupid thing i did was that i plugged it into desktop through another SATA port alongside my main hdd thinking that i can retrieve data from that method. Suddenly my computer doesnt recognize my main hdd and my main hdd start making weird noises. not the hdd noise of death but a more synchronized tone with alittle bit of scrapping(probably the metal of the arm). I hurried and turned off the system and detached the external hdd from it but the main hdd still makes the sound and now the bios takes up along time to load. if i keep it running theres a msg that pops up and says that there is no boot device detected. i went into the bios to see if it detected the hdd but it wasnt there. please help! my motherboard is an msi 785GM-E65 and hdd is from Hitachi. the external drive is from Maxtor.
Yeah u can put laptop hdd (sata) into desktop sata ports and works well. Try to unplug & plug both data and power cable. Also try to enable S.M.A.R.T, if it works download hdd diagnostic soft from hdd manufacture website and use it to test hdd.
