I'm running Windows 98, and I had my modem properly installed and running. However my PC suddenly didn't recognize the driver, so I uninstalled the modem, and attempted a reinstall. Now Win 98 has it under USB Serial Bus Contollers/ unknown device. When I try to manually install the driver for the modem, it says that "This file has no information regarding this device" (paraphrase). I'm using a USB to connect obviously. I already contacted my ISP, and we did everthing we could think of. I even formatted my HD and did a clean install of 98. Is there anything you would know that I don't? When I do try to add it as a Network Adapter and point it to the correct driver, rundll32 has an illegal operation,RUNDLL32 caused a general protection fault
in module SETUPX.DLL at 0005:000052cb. Any ideas on this one?

Did you install the software before connecting the modem? That is the usual method in Win98se. Did your ISP consider that the modem might be defective? Just because Win98se is seeing something doesn't necessarily mean the modem is good. Is the modem yours or rented? If yours, you might want to check to see if there is a firmware update. Lastly, I assume you have determined the modem is at least powering up by means of checking the lights. How about any reset buttons on the modem?
