i cannot get my webcam to work on yahoo messenger (it will on msn)i can't even adjust cam settings in prefferences as this button is not hi-lighted.If i select anything to do with webcam whilst using yahoo it locks up the messenger window and i cnnot close it ,if i try standby it has message about ati wdm rage theater video maybe needing updating (i have all latest drivers).I have to power down using keyboard off .any help will be highly appreciated.

Looks like Yahoo is trying to use your Rage Theater as a web cam.
Go to preferences (in Yahoo messenger) Click ‘Web cam’ Click ‘Camera source’ and change it to your web cam.
But for some reason you need to be broadcasting if you want to change the source or else the camera source button will be grayed out. And you say it locks up when you try to do anything thing that involves a web cam, so this could be a problem!
Symbios Y!

I'm wondering if i erase drivers reinstall my old tnt2 card (this one did work) then set the preferences as you said, erase tnt drivers, reinstall radeon, long winded but i wonder if it would work.i've had the card i little while now (its an asus radeon 9600xt)but did not realise i had this problem as i havent used yahoo since changing cards.

I have exactly the same problem with my webcam and Yahoo Messenger. But I don't have the same graphics card. So I'm wondering if the problem comes from there.
I would be very interested if you have found the source of the problem.

here is the ultimate solution:
Messenger crashes when I try to broadcast my Webcam.
If Messenger is crashing when you try to broascast your Webcam, please try the following fix:
Shut down Messenger if it is currently running. From the Windows Start menu at the left bottom of your screen, click Run.
From the input area, type regedit and press Enter. The registry editor application should open.
On the left side, expand the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder (or key), then expand the Software folder under it and select Yahoo.
If there is a Webcam folder, go to the next step. If there is no Webcam under the Yahoo folder, go to the Edit menu and click New Key and type Webcam.
Select the Webcam folder.
From the Edit menu click on New, DWORD Value and type UseVFW without any spaces.
Double-click on the entry UseVFW and change the entry in Value data to 1. Then click OK.
Exit the Registry Editor application.
Restart Messenger and try starting your webcam by clicking Start My Webcam from the Messenger menu located in the Messenger window.
Please Note: If you are on Windows 2000 or XP, you will need to be logged in as an administrator for these registry entries to be updated successfully.
