Webcam keeps shutting off during Skype

Hi, I bought and installed a creative live webcam pro, and am trying to use it with skype. it works fine at the start, but a couple seconds later, the blue light on the webcam will turn off, and my own skype screen will freeze. I'm assuming this means that the webcam keeps shutting itself off. I need this to work with the skype program. any advice?
