THE ISSUE – 2 PROBLEMS:
1: When I go into ‘make a video call’ on MSN Messenger and the audio set-up box appears, in the speaker-level set-up section, the level does not stay fixed where I want it. The lever just slides back down. I don’t understand this... Then, as soon as I connect to Messenger to make a video call, it terminates my internet connection –just seconds after attempting a communication- permanently so I have to reboot. At this point, on choosing to shut my computer down to start over again, the screen always comes up with box stating a task that needs to be ended –that never ends… ("End Programme LXBKBMON") It crashes the computer and I have to turn it off at the wall without shutting it down properly.2: When I sign in and don’t even attempt to call –I’ve literally just signed in- after a while my internet connection will terminate. It just signs me out and terminates my internet connection! This only happens when I have installed camera software/hardware. I do not understand!
My computer is relatively new (3.5 years) Packard Bell Celeron, (XP is 2002 Service Pack 2) with over half of disk space availability (on the C drive) and with 448 MB of RAM installed. I have assumed this is plenty?
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and anything else that myself and others could think of. Everything appears to function properly –camera microphone and picture, all until the dreaded communication attempt. It also goes direct into a USB slot at the back of the computer where-as before it went through a hub. I thought this would make a difference, but no...Please say you can help! I don't know who else to go to. I've tried Logitech website and other various sources, but I really need a tech-head to help me.
With thanks and hope,
Mrs T
Thank you ever so much.

Start with event viewer logs.
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

"...the screen always comes up with box stating a task that needs to be ended –that never ends… ("End Programme LXBKBMON") ..."
When you get a message like that, look up the name of the file on the web, and/or Search for that name on your computer, to see what it's for, and/or where it is.
In this case, searching with: LXBKBMON, I found:
"LXBKBMON.exe
Lexmark X1100/X1150 Button Monitor. Background task installed by the drivers for the Lexmark X1100/X1150 multifunction printer/scanner/copier. "
It's for your Lexmark all-in-one.
"It also goes direct into a USB slot at the back of the computer where-as before it went through a hub. I thought this would make a difference, but no..."
You are correct - it certainly CAN make a difference whether you plug into a USB hub or not.
More about that, and other reasons why a USB connected device may not work properly....
See response 3 in this:
http://www.computing.net/answers/wi...If you installed the USB connected webcam and/or the USB connected all-in-one printer software when there was a problem with the USB port it was connected to, the software may not have installed properly, and/or the device may not work properly, or either or both may not work properly even if you change where it is plugged into to a port it should work properly in.
To make sure that it is installed properly:
- unplug the USB device you are having problems with
- uninstall all the software for the device you are having problems with in Add/Remove Programs, reboot. You may be prompted to plug the device back in while un-installing the software - if so, do that, then unplug it again before rebooting.
- in your case, you may need to un-install and install the MSN Messenger software too.- you should have a minimal number of programs running when you install any new software yourself, especially if it's more complicated
- at the very least it is recommended you disable the resident component (the part that runs all the time) of any anti-virus or anti-spyware/trojan/adware program from running - if you don't know how to do that, tell us which one(s) you are using.
- you can also use msconfig to disable extra un-necessary programs that load when Windows first starts up from loading. If you don't know how to do that see MSCONFIG below. (One of them may be LXBKBMON.exe)
- install the software, according to the manufacturer's directions
- in most cases, the directions for installing a more sophisticated USB connected device require you to NOT plug in the device until the software for it has been installed - sometimes it asks you to plug in the device in the latter part of the software installation, sometimes it does that after the computer reboots.
- your all-in-one probably must be switched on when you plug in the USB cable- try your device, and the software
.............
MSCONFIG
How to use Msconfig to disable the loading of Startup programs.
Start - Run - type: msconfig, click on OK
Choose the Startup tab.
All the lines that have a checkmark in the box at the beginning of the line load something when Windows starts. Most of them, or sometimes ALL of them, do NOT have to be loaded in order for the programs associated with them to work properly. Some make an icon appear in your taskbar lower right.
If not all of them are enabled, you might want to make notes about which ones are enabled
Usually you can choose Disable ALL, OK, reboot, and all or nearly all lines that load things will still be disabled after you reboot, you won't notice any adverse effects, other than fewer or no icons will load in your taskbar lower right and you may want some of those to be there in some cases, you will get to your desktop screen faster, and the hard drive activity once the desktop loads, much of it associated with these lines, will stop sooner.
When you have rebooted, two System Configuration windows will appear.
Click on the X top right in both windows to make them go away.If you have not already done so, it is recommended you disable the resident component of your anti-virus or anti-spyware/trojan/adware program from running (usually that is not disabled by disabling lines in msconfig).
Install the software you wanted to install.
After you are sure the software and/or the device is working correctly, the next time you boot, click on the red X top right in the first System Configuration Window, then in the second one, select Enable all, or just click on the boxes beside only the lines you want to enable (recommended - most people have far too many things loading at Startup they do not need to load), then reboot.
The next time you boot, if you don't want to make any further changes to msconfig at that time, click on the small box on the first one to make a checkmark appear in it, then the second window will not appear, and neither window will appear the next time you boot or therafter (until the next time you make a change in msconfig). If not all of the lines in msconfig - startup are enabled, if you have some disabled lines that are identical to other disabled lines or to an enabled line, if you enable all of them, there will be only one line after you reboot.
Some enabled lines appear again on their own (e.g. ctfmon), or re-appear after you use the program associated with them (e.g. Realplayer, Quicktime), despite you having disabled the line.If you disabled a line for software you un-installed:
- if you install that software again, you will see an enabled line that is identical to the line you disabled in the startup list, even before you re-enable the lines you disabled. If you enable both identical lines, after you reboot, there will be only one enabled line.
- the one glitch with using msconfig - if you don't re-install the software you un-installed, the disabled lines for that software are still in the registry. If you enable such a line, you MAY get an error message because Windows can't find the file or program the line is supposed to load. You can clean that up by using a registry cleanup utility, which removes useless registry entries.

Thank you both for your replys -thank you especially TubesandWires -incredibly for your time! I have printed out what you have said and I will work through all the process you have mentioned over the next few days.
Bless you for your help -I will let you know what happens.
God bless you,
Mrs T
