I got my mom a web cam for her laptop and just installed it. Everything works fine but I assumed there would be some sort of comunication software with it? I've never used one before, how do you comunicate with other web cams?

Easiest way is to use something like AOL Instant Messenger or MSN Messenger.

Practically every Instant Messaging application has Web Cam facilities. You can add Skype or Yahoo to the list.

Skype does a great job with video calls. In my opinion, the picture quality beats Yahoo and the rest of 'em.
