Hey guys, i have a WD external hard drive and i have noticed it dosent work anymore. Instead i get click. (the clicks of death) My hard drive is still covered under warenty but i have removed the WD plastic casing it is supposed to be enclosed in. Do you guys think this will make any difference to the state of my warrenty? I did not remove the hard drive casing its self, just the plastic casing around that.

Below is an excerpt from the Western Digital support site.
#
External Hard Drives Return the drive in its original plastic casing or enclosure along with the power adapter. Include the RMA number outside of the box. Please keep all software, manuals and interface cables.
Note:
1. Do not dismantle single-drive WD externals. Returning the internal drive from a single-drive WD external will void the warranty and we will return the drive to you.
2. If you have an internal EIDE or Serial ATA hard drive inside a third party external enclosure, please remove the drive from the enclosure before returning under an RMA. If you ship the defective hard drive inside the third party external enclosure, your product will be returned to you without fulfilling the RMA claim. It appears you are out of luck because you removed the drive from the enclosure.

aahh damn, i really hoped i could get it under warrenty, perhaps WD will just do it out of good will. :D
Kind regards,

Put it back in the casing and return it.
You should be OK.

Kind regards,
xteaopia
