Two things are required in order to use a HD larger than 137GB. First your BIOS must be 48 bit LBA compliant. Second your operating system must be 48 bit compliant. 48 bit compliant OSes are Win2000SP3 or better and WinXPsp1 or better. Watch the POST screens during startup for the model of the new harddrive. If the model isn't displayed in those screens then most likely your BIOS isn't 48 bit LBA compliant. If this is the case then you will need to either update the BIOS if available or use an add in controller card. If the drive is properly identified but you won't have a 48 bit LBA OS then the solution is to partition before entering windows to partition sizes smaller than the 48 bit threshold.

Thanks for giving me the reason why I can't partition more than 137gig. I used XP Sp1 Disc managaement and got the rest of my HD space back Thank you very much. <3 : )
