Dell / Dimension 4600i...

Picked up in pieces an old dell....got it running...it has a maxtor sata drive....all is well.... until I connected a wd 2500 sata.

Both show up in bios as hd's but the wd shows up as a cdrom in win explorer.
The original hd (maxtor) still has xp pro on it. Runs fine but will be formatted.

Before doing this I want to test out all 5 wd 2500 hard drives before offing them to Ebay.

My question is ... why only in bios do the wd hd.s show up as hd.s and not in explorer?
As cdroms they cannot be accessed.

Is this a driver issue?

It is better if the drive shows up in bios as a hard drive. I guess (never tried it) it is possible to make a hard drive to appear as a cdrom. Difficult to hack it that way.

I doubt is is a driver issue. Could boot to a live cd and see how it views the drive.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?
