I've been having this problem for some time now. I have a 2nd hd by which was working just fine(100g with data on it)and one day, for some odd reason, would not boot and I hear these click noises as if it were trying to run or something. I really hope there's a way to recover the data from it :(. If anyone can help me out on what to do, I'd appreciate greatly Thanx.

Btw, both hds are connected correctly with my primary hd being 40gb and 2nd hd 100gb as a primary slave.

Methods that has sometimes helped me to recover from a "clicking" drive:
- Drop hard drive onto floor, usually moves the heads
- Store drive in a freezer over night
- Try attaching drive to another machine
If u can get the drive detected after trying any of those, i'd recommend that u ghost (clone) it to another drive asap as these methods will 'revive' the drive temporarily.

The last two advices you gave are good, but i'm not sure about dropping it onto the floor. Ouch, wouldn't it damage the insides of the drive?

Depends on how far you drop it, and on which edge. Now if the motor is not coming up, often it is the motor drive electronics that gave out. If the motor runs, it is usually the speed detectors.

Professional shops (and manufactures) that offer data recovery services, usually have spare sets of drive electronics that they just swap in and test with. In extreme cases they actually have to move the disk platters to a different drive. Not something you can do.
