Name: jackbomb
While browsing the neighbourhood alleyways (don't you love spring cleaning?) I came across some old computer parts. Actually, it was a complete computer, minus a case and monitor. It's a P3-600, 384mb of RAM, and two 20GB hard drives. On my test bench, it booted right up. So now what I want to do with these parts is make a lovely Wooden HTPC and run it off my server.
Onboard video's too slow, so I'm trying to use an old FX5200 AGP card. The card won't fit! The AGP slot is too far back on the motherboard. It's not AGP Pro or anything like that. I tried my old AIW 9800, which also would not fit. The board has no manufacturer/model on it. I could post a picture if it's needed. Were there ever any "special" versions of AGP?

I agree with Santa. Riser slot on MBoards I have had were located as the first slot at the top and were quite small. Brown in color, I believe.

Look for an FCC# silk screened on the board and then try this link :

Keep the old stuff running

Nope, it's not a riser. It says right on the side of the slot that it's a Foxconn AGP slot. If it weren't located too far back on the board, my AGP card WOULD fit the slot.
The riser card has already been installed in a different slot.

As I said in my original post, the processor is a P3-600 (slot 1 version, Katmai core) powered by a 440BX chipset. I'm guessing that it was built in 1999, maybe 2000.
I'm thinking that, since this thing has a riser card, perhaps it was originally in a SFF case. Do low profile AGP cards have their connectors placed further along the PCB than standard-profile cards? I do have a low-profile ATI 9600 somewhere. If I can find it I'll try it out.

Well, I found my low profile AGP card, and it wouldn't fit either. This is one strange board.
I suppose I could take off the video card's bracket, cut off the part of the PCB that's preventing installation, and then try it.

Have you determined the make/model of the board? I'm sure the manufacturer's site or manual could shed some light on what you have...you shouldn't have to cut the PCB.

have you tried taking off the metal retaining bracket and inserting it? If it sits too far back, perhaps you could mod a new bracket or space it out so that it will fit. Use plastic washers.

I finally figured out where this motherboard came from--an IBM Personal Computer 300PL.
I downloaded a whole bunch of manuals from Lenovo. They didn't mention anything special about the AGP slot. They just gave generic video card installation instructions.
So yesterday I trimmed off some of the video card's PCB and took off the metal bracket. The video card is now in the slot and working fine.Next step--make a wooden chassis for this thing. :)
Thanks to those who replied.

Looks like this is the kind of LP cards that normally fit into that IBM machine's motherboard because of its NLX form factor.
Edit: No worries try the links below - it's just an illustration anyway.
