You need a 2.5" SATA hard drive, the machine should have come with a 500GB size but you can go larger or even smaller depending on your needs (larger is nearly always better). You will also need a new copy of Windows or a recovery disk from Asus which they should be able to sell you if you can supply them with the serial number at a reduced price.

Here are a couple:

Edit: Sorry, I probably read it too fast and thought you were talking about the internal hard drive. I might have also been confused after reading another post just prior to reading this one.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Here's the laptop: http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultra...

Here's the optical drive: http://www.asus.com/Optical_Drives/...

I suggest getting a drive that supports USB 3.0 & you might wanna consider BluRay although they're quite expensive.

I guess my question is why did you buy a unit without an optical drive in the first place?

"Most notebooks dont come with optical drive"

That doesn't mean you are forced to buy one without an optical drive. There are plenty of fully-equipped laptops available. However, you've bought one now but I certainly wouldn't have. It's hardly portable with an optical drive dangling from it.
