the old computer has 2 256mb mem. sticks and my new one has 2 512mb mem. sticks. the new one has two twin slot sockets with one memory slot used in each. So i added one 256mb stick along side each of the 512mb in each of the two sockets. when i powered back up nothing happened. i shut down and removed the two 256mb sticks from both twin sockets and all is back to normal. how do i add this memory to my computer the correct way? do i put botth 512 mb sticks in one slot and then the two 256mb in the other one.. please let me know what i need to do thanks.. Greg
thanks stuart, not sure if they are compatible or not they both are in hp computers. both say ddr on them. the old fits into the new.. one notch. what else would you need to know if they are compatible or not?
Ok.. new computer uses (2) 512mb DDR PC3200. CL3 old computer is using (2)254mb DDR PC2100. CL2.5 Does this info. help anyone answer my question .. will the old computer memory work in and along side the new computers memory .the new computer has (2) dual slot banks with one 512mb stick in each of the banks. if they are compatible should i pair up the existing 512mb in one bank and then pair up the old 256mb in the other bank. i already tried to just add one 256mb stick along side each of the existing 512mb sticks but computer did nothing at power up. plz help if anyone can... it would be nice to be able to add another 512mb of memory to my newer computer!
