I have read many refeneces to a work around for the W98 memory limit OF 512 Mb. So far, tho, I haven't found anywhere that tells me how to increase this. There is, apparently, a registry tweak that works, per OtheHill. Can someone point me to a site where I can find out the changes for this? I have even scoured the Crucial site for it, with no luck. I know you can set a maximum memory in MSCONFIG, but that's mainly just for troubleshooting. I'd just like to be able to use my 768 Mb. Like right now FreeRam shows only 256 Mb available. (Out of 512) Thanks.

Sorry, everyone. After I posted this I realized I was in the General Hardware forum. But I guess memory IS hardware, huh?

Use the MaxFileCache setting in the System.ini file to reduce the maximum amount of memory that Vcache uses to 512 megabytes (524,288 KB) or less.

Open the System.ini file in a text editor, such as Microsoft Windows Notepad.
Go to the [VCache] section.
Change the MinFileCache= and the MaxFileCache= settings to the desired value.

NOTE: The value for these settings are in kilobytes. For example, if you want to create a 50-MB cache that cannot exceed 55 MB, the lines would be as follows:

[VCache]
MinFileCache=51200
MaxFileCache=56320

Here is a Microsoft article dealing with the issue.

Copy and paste the url into your web browser address window and click go.

Good Luck.

Thanks Dave02. I have read this before, and it explains why you CAN'T use more than 512 Mb on Win 95/98/ME. What I have run across are several references to a possible workaround that allows you to use up to 768 Mb. It says that the limit is actually 800 Mb, but the AGP video board needs 128 Mb (or in my case, 64Mb) of that. So, I'd guess that if I had a PCI video board I could probably do it. But I like my AGP board, so I guess that's out. It looks like I'm up against a hardware limitation. It can't be done. LOL
