Solved W7 automatically assign standard video driver

Ati Radeon 9000 64mb video card

Specs: Windows 7, 2GB ram
windows 7 installs my new graphic card with out letting me choose the driver and then the card wont work because the driver that windows 7 installed is the wrong one

If the card is not giving a display then remove the card and then connect through onboard graphics and then go to control panel and then add/remove programs and check for installed NVIDIA driver. NVIDIA drivers always appear in the list. Then goto NVIDIA website and download the latest driver. NVIDIA has a standard driver for the Geforce and then install it. Later connect your graphic card and then boot. Everything should be fine.

Video card driver is used in OS environment, u don't need video card driver to start a system(to be able to see the post screen or entering BIOS). If u don't see anything on screen then u have a hardware issue.
I don't think there is a win 7 driver for radeon 9000, u have to use generic win 7 driver.

they sent a cd with the drivers on it plus it has direct x 9 ,but the os wont let me have the option to use it. What to do

I understand that card is not supported in Windows 7. You'll need a newer card.

The only video card listed is old ATi 9000, no nvidia card listed.

I have an nvidia cd with a windows 7 driver as well as a vista driver for the card(the bunnies are cute anyway) Why would you use Nvidia drivers with an ATI card. You said you have an ATI Radeon card.
