Vsync ON/OFF?

Specs: WinXP Pro, AMD XP 2500+ @2,4GHz / 1G

Hi,

I have a problem with DooM3 Resurrection of Evil.. when Vertical Sync is turned off i get very annoying tearing in the game, But when i turn it on my FPS will drop dramaticly..

With Vsync off i get around 30 ~ 60 FPS
With Vsync on i get around 20 ~ 30 FPS

I this right..? because a lot of sites recommended that i should turn it on, but they dont say anything about the huge loss in performance in games (not only in DooM3-RoE but also in alot of other games)

This is my rig, should be well able to handle it right..?

AMD Athlon XP-M 2500+ @ 2,4GHz
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
Kingston 2x512MB DDR400
Gigabyte 6800GT 256MB @ 400MHz - 1100MHz
WesternDigital 160GB 7200RPM

btw, the videocard and CPU also aren't overheating.

vsync will limit your fps to the refresh rate of your monitor. That being said, i doubt your monitor's refresh rate is set at 30hz(i think its labeled hz). Try raising the refresh rate. some games have an in game option for it. otherwise, right click desktop, go to properties, settings, advanced, monitor, and choose i higher one.
Note: only pick one your monitor is able to display. there should be an option to only show ones that your monitor is able to.

Try it and see if it helps.

Hi bobby,

My monitor is already at 60Hz (more my monitor cant support on 1280x1024) when i play the game @ 1024x768 i can put it to 75Hz and i get a lot more FPS.. but @ 1280x1024 my monitor is still at 60Hz so, why do i get these bad FPS.>?
