Vista reading incorrect C drive siz

On disk management the C drive size is being read correctly - 67GB with 14.6GB free..but under 'my computer, properties' it's being read as 500MB with 0 bytes free..so laptopb(Dell Inspiron 1525) is loadding fine but am unable to open mail,docs,etc due to insufficient space..no virus found after scanning with both mcafee and nod32..please may you advise what the problem is..have already done chdksk
