Hi,
I have a "collection" of old vintage computer systems. Mostly IBM's, XT clones etc. Do you think its better to run these old computers every couple days so they don't stop working, or should I keep them off for a couple weeks / months and use them only when I need to? ( I want them to last as long as possible)

Thanks!

I would say use them only when you need them. Just be sure to store them in a dust/tempature controlled environment.

The environment in which you use and keep them is most emportant for lasting of the computers.

My personal opinion if you run them every couple days could be harder then letting them sit.

I respectfully disagree. I run 286, 386 and 486 machines either 24/7 or on an on/off basis and find that some of my rigs have problems and some don't.

Just ain't a pat answer for a ? like this.

If any machine you own won't boot each and every time you need it or if it gives you trouble after extended run times or gives trouble after being shut down for awhile, you either need to fix it or toss it.

Many folks, me included, are running 20 year old computers with no problems...daily.
