Viewing Video on my PC

Specs: Windows Vista
can't watch videos on my pc ,I use to with no problem now its like its not reading it,but i can put in an audio cd and it works fine for sound.Also i checked for updates for drivers but no luck.Not sure what to do.

What happens when you try to view a video & which program are you using? You may need to update Windows Media Player or install a Codec pack. Or you can try a different Media Player such as VLC.

Hi Mickliq,thanks for replying,when i insert video i absolutly nothing happens,its like its not being read no sound or anything but before i formatted my pc it was working fine,i've updated Windows media player but makes no difference and i've got VLC installed but again nothing.I'm not sure where to get codec pack from and really dont want to have to pay for it .Can you suggest something for me please? Thanks ladyamethyst.

You didn't say anything about formatting in the original post. Why was that done? I can only guess that you didn't reinstall the SP, all the Windows Updates & the latest drivers - chipset, video, audio, network, etc.

VLC will generally play just about anything.

VLC should already include codecs for just about anything out there. You mention "when i insert video i absolutly nothing happens", which sounds like autoplay (a.k.a. - autorun) is turned off. Have a look at this (under "How To Enable/Disable Autorun (Windows XP)):

If that doesn't solve the problem, you should still be able to view videos by opening VLC, then opening the file from the menu:

"Channeling the spirit of jboy..."
