in trying to watch a video (youtube, news on line interviews,etc) it is constantly stopping. I have to wait for it to start again. actually viewing the video is less time than the stopping time..can i solve this with my 'old' laptop?

No, online videos are called streaming video. It only plays as fast as you can receive it. You could hit the pause button on the player and wait for it to complete, but this could take a long time depending on how fast it's transmitted and how fast you can receive it. You can try to right click on it and select Save Target As, but you still have to wait for it to download.
