Video tape to PC or DVD

Hi all
I've got a whole load (1000,s) of video tapes that the quality is going on, so I'd like to....
1. Save them onto hard drive and watch via my TV
2. Save them onto DVD
Questions can I do one or the other or both what hardware will I need, any help will be grateful.

You need a graphix card that will accept some form of video imput and the apropriate leads. I have an old system (P200) with a DVD decoder card in it that has an svid input and if I remember right the manual has instructions for exactly what your suggesting. Unfortunatly I'm on moving house so it's all packed away.
I'm not up to date with graphics cards but I'd expect some newer cards to support this as well as TV cards

For that much work you should consider buying this, doing all the transfers, and then selling it on ebay if you want to recoupe most of your money. $500 is not much to make a long job less hassle, especially as you'll get most of your money back something this high end and cool!
