I wanted to know something about video card and computers.

I have a g4 4400 card on a Dell machine. When I play games the options screens are really hard to read and ugly. Once the game starts it flashes and then the 3d part I guess kicks in and it looks great. I thought the video card was on all the time if it was AGP? Am I wrong.

My old system everything like 2d looked fantastic (I thought the card was on the whole time) but with this machine windows and 2d apps look like hell. Games are better but not up to par. Any help

ok

Windows and the web look really bad. Games look good. It seems like the video card only works when playing games. I figure this is normal, yes? It just seems like my last machine the card was always on.

When I go into the games the load screens look terrible (options part of the games too) but once the game loads when I am ready to play it will flash and then it looks great. I suspect that is when the card kicks in.

I have tried 30.82 through 41.09 all with the same result.

in games, this is because the menus are in 800x600 16bit standard default, when the game starts, your settings kick in, such as 1280x768 32 bit, and the flash is your monitor adjusting to the difference, as for your desktop and web sites, make sure your Setting in Display properties are set to 32bit color, and whatever resolution you like.
