My monitor is a very old dell monitor it works fine im using it this instant, but half the time if I turn my puter off which I very rarely do, my monitor wont display period...Nothing at all. If I flip the back switch on the powersupply off, then wait ten seconds push the main powerswitch back on, then the system switch it will boot and half the time give me a picture. I cant cat the system. However since its not a constant problem I know it has to be some kind of short, or something..But where? My powersupply checks out perfectly had a friend test all connections...etc. Reset the bios, all the normal things you would do to make sure it wasnt a power issue, and its fine..I checked the video card in another pc, it worked there just fine...Im not sure what else?? Is there a setting in bios that would cause this? If so what? Thanks again.

Reply: (edit) It could be the monitor has a cold solder in it and when it is cold it just wont work. But after turning the PC on and off a few times ,by then the monitor has warmed up enough to work. Try turning on the monitor a few minutes before you try turning on the PC. <===Lefty===

Reply: (edit)It's not a Bios setting. It's a poor connection somewhere, probably on the motherboard or power supply. If that's the case, you will not get the normal startup beep. As Lefty stated, poor connections can open up when cool and close when warmed up. You could try reseating the motherboard power connector if you haven't done that yet.

Reply: (edit)Ill try reseting the power connection that just might do it. I checked bios anyway for the power save feature and there is none with this monitor so that aint it. Far as the monitor warming up goes, guys I NEVER turn my monitor off I dont recomend anyone if you have a old tele tube type monitor to be fliping it on and off, that is when things tend to short out and fry, each time you introduce current into a system that is electrical your running more of a risk to burning it out, for example if you notice light bulbs tend to burn out when you go to flip it back on. Same with televistions. I just keep mine on it does go into stand by which I rather not have it do but...Since it does then yeah. Anywho I run my system none stop also have for four years now.lol Only time I have a problem is when I shut down...Ill try the power connection in a few days when I have time. Thanks yall for your help ill let yall know what happens. Thou its been four years since ive messed with my puter internaly so ill have to just follow the wire to the power connection.lol Make sure to let the board and everything drain first, had a friend that just shut his puter down, went to reset bios, had a electrical build up, and ZAP there went his board.lol

Reply: (edit)"I dont recomend anyone if you have a old tele tube type monitor to be fliping it on and off, that is when things tend to short out and fry" That was true in the old days, but there is better design these days and components are much more reliable, so it's really not worth worrying about these days.
