My dad asked me if he could use Powerstrip to overclock his dedicated ATI video card in his laptop. I have used it is some desktops with good success but never in a laptop. Thanks in advance for opinions.

Generally, it should make no difference, but cranking up a card can be risky in any system - in a laptop, you may not be able to replace it if you ruin it.

A little research wrt that particular chipset would be advisable - the potential gains may not be worth the effort or risk, and temperature may well be a consideration

when using powerstrip on a PC, if you crank it up a lot you need to add additional cooling to the graphics card core and memory chips. You will not be able to do this on a laptop (i would think), so I agree with the previous answers that any gain would not be a lot and any damage you cause is not so easy to fix as on a pc.

I thought that there would be some heat issues. Thanks so much for the replies and opinions. You guys are the cats!

I'm glad that helped - - there is a separate CPU & Overclocking forum here @Computing.Net, perhaps more specific advice could be rendered there.
