I've pretty much tried everything. Whenever I try to play a game it freezes out of nowhere. I could be getting really good framerates and all of a sudden the game just stops in its tracks. The video will just pause and the sound will keep repeating. I used to think it was something wrong with my hard drive, I used to have a 10 gig hard drive and I thought the reason why it was freezing was because of some bizzare data plug-up. So I went to go buy an 80 gig hard drive and it still does it, but not as frequently. It seems like it dosn't do it as frequentlty either if I do a disk defragmentation. When I go to play Max Payne 2, I get excelent framerates but it'll freeze out of nowhere. I have a 350 WATT power supply and that's the minimum system requirment for my video card, my video card is an eVGA 6800 Ultra.
Max Payne 2
Battlefield 2 -With Special Forces-
Quake 4
F.E.A.R.
Half Life 2
Unreal Tournament 2004

The weird thing is, that it's NEVER froze when I was playing Unreal Tournament 2004. It's just really weird. I checked to see if it was my sound drivers, because of the sound repeating after it froze, but sadly nothing. It's just a very odd problem. Well I would GREATLY appreciate it if anyone could help me with my boggus problem, thanks.

P.S. I've also been thinking if there is something I should change in my BIOS.
And it isn't my video card overheating, it stays at a constant temp of 46 degrees C.

Oh yeah, and I don't need to do a system restore either. Already done it about 14 times, nothing.

why do you have 1.25GB of RAM? this could be your problem, that's an odd amount, i am guessing that you have 2 x 512MB RAM chips plus a 256MB chip... get rid of that 256MB chip and just run it with the 1GB, see if that fixes it

if that doesn't fix it, then you can start by listing all your system specs (brand names and model numbers for your MoBo, CPU, RAM, PSU, Vid Card) so we can see where the problem lies.

Don't put a question here.

It actually did it before I put in the extra 256 Mb of Ram, I put in the 256 to see if it might help a little.

MotherBoard: Chaintech 7NJL6

http://www.chaintechusa.com/tw/eng/product_spec.asp?MPSNo=13&PISNo=277

eVGA 6800 Ultra 256 MB

350 WATT power supply

Onboard sound

AMD Sempron 2800+ (I'm pretty sure that isn't the problem, but I could be wrong, currently running at 2 GHZ)

1024 Mb Corsair--Single stick --Without 256--

i had this problem and heres what i done.

I have 6600gt card so has own power to it.
I just incresred the voltage to my grafics card. Also updated all drivers, chipset etc.
also ive heard that these problems are usually because ur ram timings are not right.
hope this helps.

hhmm.. do you get the latest drivers for your vid card? (from their website, not the CD that came wih it)??? they might have a fix for the problem you are experiencing, if it is driver related

also, do you have a PCI card installed in PCI slot #1?

Don't put a question here.

Okay, I just took a look at my ram and they are different speeds. So I took out the 256. Now how do I up the voltage to my video card?..I think I know how to, but I don't want to screw it up.

I still think that it is a RAM issue, try the system with just the 256MB chip, it may run very slow, but if it doesn't freeze, then you know where your problem is

as for your vid card voltage, i don't think that will solve it, and I don't recommend doing it because it will aso overclock any PCI cards in your system (they are very sensitive to voltage increases and can burn out quickly) but if you want to try overclocking your video card you can adjust your AGP voltage through the BIOS (if it allows it), increase it in the smallest increments possible and test your system each time, there is no magic number that will work for every system. if you don't know what you are doing, or don't feel comforatble trying, then don't do it, you can fry your video card and PCI cards

Don't put a question here.

I'm still having the problem, even with just the 256 in. It dosn't happen as often though.
