Which is better?

My current card is the ATI 9600.

What are thought on the GeForce FX 5500 OC?

I am experiencing lag in games - Any suggestions?

Are these online games? If so the lag is comming from what ever net connection you have.

Well, personally I have never had an ATI card, but I have had good luck with nvidia stuff (years ago I remember the best was S3 Trio hehe).

But really, best performance comes from hardware specs, not names. Look for size of video memory and interface, like PCI or AGP(agp which has different speeds 2x & 4x and 8x, Agp is recomended if you have an agp slot. Be aware to check the boards specs to see if the speed of it is compatable with whatever card you choose.).

Also another important thing to consider is bandwith/second between the board and the chip.

So whats better.. hmm price wise.. less megs = less price. less megs = less performance. less performance = bad expierience. bad expierience = hating of the company whose VC you have. (which is never nice)

What I mean by lag is not related to online play. I play Counter Strike and Gun Bound online with no problems.

I begin having problems in Warcraft 3 and the Frozen Throne. When I am playing Warcraft 3, the game will run smoothly for about 5 seconds, skip, then run smooth for another 5 seconds. This process is repeated over and over again, and eventually, the sound begins to screw up as well, where voices will repeat and skip. THe CD is not scratched.

I have adjusted the resolution which did not help. THere is no spyware on my computer as I just ran it last night multiple times - No viruses or hacks either.

I have a Sony Vaio desktop RX-470 I think - Got it in 2001 this August - Came with GeForce 2 MX/MX 400 and 128MB RAM. I have since upgraded the ram to 256MB and put the ATI Radeon 9600 in. It is AGP, but as for speeds(2x, 4x, 8x, - I have no idea - How can I find out??)

I have posted this problem elsewhere, but no one has been able to help.

Any suggestions?!?!?!

Yeah, try the Video Card manuefacturer's website for parts information. Or Sony tech support. (But from what I heard, AGP speed makes no apparent difference anyway. Its just for compatibility, but its obviously not the problem if the card actually works.)

Have you tried posting your question on the Battle.net forums? The techies there are pretty good at answering questions like that.

Hmm, best I could say is try a reinstall. Back up your game data first tho.

I never played Warcraft (just SC) but if its like I think it is, try and reduce shadows or textures in the game properties.

Can you reduce the resolution? perhaps take it from 1024x768 to 800x600. Dunno if thats possible.
