My desktop is a DELL Dimension 8100, P4, 1.3 with 1GB RAM and 250W power supply. The unit came with a 4X AGP video card “NVIDIA GForce2 GTS TNT2 M64” with 32MB SDRAM memory. Last year I bought a new AGP 8X card “XFX GeForce FX 5200” with 128MB DDR memory but I found my graphics were much slower and returned this card. My questions: What is the difference between an AGP video card and a PCI video card? Is an AGP better than a PCI? Can I leave the AGP card as it is now and install a PCI video card or it is better to remove the AGP and install a PCI to avoid conflicts in my system?(I do have two empty PCI slots) Thank you

agp is much better than pci. anyone who has agp slot should use a card in that slot. using a pci card if you have agp slot is mad.
Also a Geforce 2 GTS is a totally different card to TNT2 M64. It must be one OR the other you have. (geforce 2 GTS is much superior to TNT2 M64.).

NOTE PCI means old type white slots, NOT to be confused with modern day PCI-Express which is totally different

I don't know where you got that info from but there is no "NVIDIA GForce2 GTS TNT2 M64". There's a GeForce2 GTS which was a decent card in it's day & there's the TNT2 M64 which was a low-end/budget card in it's day. The FX5200 is a crappy card, but it's better than either of the other two. If it's performance was worse, I would suspect some sort of driver issue.

PCI cards are MUCH slower than AGP cards. Don't waste your time or money. You have an AGP slot...make use of it!

Since you only have a 250W PSU, you should probably avoid a card that requires the PSU plug-in, unless you wanna upgrade the PSU too? Assuming not, the Radeon 9600XT is the best AGP card you can get that doesn't require the plug-in:

Upgrade to a higher cpu while you're at it. Heck now of days you need a 1.6ghz pentium cpu just to play some shockwave games. Ouch.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ OC 2.7ghz
2GB Dual Channel DDR 3200
Nvidia 7900GT
SATA II 2x 300gig 7200rpm 16mb cache RAID-0+1
Gigabyte Nforce 4 SLI
