I have a Compaq Presario 2200 pc that was given to me by a friend. It runs Windows ME. The problem is with the video card. I can only get 16 colors. The video card is a Cyrix GX. I downloaded a driver for it and still can only get 16 colors. I went into the device manager and it had an exclamation point there and when I clicked on properties it said,"The display adapter is functioning correctly. The problem is with the main display adapter. Fix the main display adapter and then the display adapter will work." What does it mean by the "main display adapter"?

this is reffering to the video card you are using. It could be that the drivers you have are not Windows ME compatible. Try removing the device (in the device manager), restarting, and reinstall the driver. If this doesn't help, the driver may not be WinME compatible. Try a differant driver (i reccomend looking a www.driverguide.com, you have to register, but it's free, this is where i get all my drivers). The video card may just be bad. Is it biult into the motherboard? If you are using a card (and the mobo has integrated video) the two may conflict. Try what i have suggested. Hope this helps. Happy New Year

The Cyrix Media GX has the video chip built into the CPU. I have one working with Win 98 SE. But I don't know which driver. The only driver available from HP/Compaq is for Win 95.

Oh well, guess I'm stuck with only 16 colors. Guess I'll have to turn it into a dos machine.

Try the 95 driver. I don't have convenient access to my 2200, so I can't readily check.
