So here's my situation. A few days ago I was on my comp, gaming as usual, when my mouse ceases to respond. The actual cursor is stuck in one place yet i can still click things with the now invisible cursor. To remedy this I attempt rebooting.
My computer gets to and passes the Windows XP splash load screen and then I get nothing but a black screen, a moment later my monitor goes into hibernation. I repeat this process a few times.
I then format my hard drive and install a fresh copy of windows. All goes well. I install my drivers fine, until I get to my video card driver. (My video card is a Geforce FX 5700 Ultra) I run Nvidia's driver (which I am sure is the correct one) and as the progress bar gets a little past the halfway point my monitor flashes once, then again, and gives me a black screen filled with random characters. Shortly after my system reboots and repeats the splash screen, lockup problem. The only way I can manage to load windows again is by loading it with the last good config. (No vid. driver installed). I attempt installing it a few more times with the same effect.
Then I loaded Windows in safe mode and install the driver. The driver manages to install without a hitch, but upon rebooting I am again met with the splash screen/lockup problem.

I've attempted the troubleshooting I know of, and am left to ask for the help of these forums. Has my video card met it's end? Or is there something I'm missing? Thank you for any responses. (Sorry for the lengthy explanation)

An update: Today I attempted installing an older driver. It successfully installed and I was able to play World of Warcraft for about 2 minutes. After a few minutes of being in-game I am minimized and I have an error telling me that 'My video card is not recieving sufficient power from my power supply'. So my FPS in-game is extremely low. So I reboot, and once again am met with the inability to get passed the XP loading splash screen. I uninstall the drivers in safe mode and attempt to reinstall them, and now I can't install the driver and my comp locks up halfway through the installation just like my original problem. I switched out my video cards power cord but this didn't help. I highly doubt this is the fault of my power supply.

There you go. Your computer was pretty blatant about it.

You're going to need to buy a meatier power supply.
