Google came up with a few things

http://www.google.co.uk/search?
hl=en&q=To+protect+your+hardware+from+potential+damage
+or+causing+a+potential+system+lockup,+the+graphics+pro
cessor+has+lowered+its+performance+to+a+level+that+allow
s+continued+safe+operations.&meta=&rlz=1I7GGLL_en-GB

I would check the fan on the graphics card, & check for dust
on the cpu fan.

UK MP's are thieving scumbags.
EU members are worse.
