Recently bought a Saphirre Radeon 9600xt 128mb to replace the onboard video I have been using on my ECS L7VMM3 m/b. When I place the v-card in however, windows will not detect it, even though it is receiving power and the fan is running. Booting up with the monitor cable into the card results in a black screen while I can still hear windows booting up properly. I thought it might be the card, but I also remembered how the Soundblaster 5.1 card I had put in 2 weeks earlier to replace the onboard sound, didn't work either. I have tried disabling the onboard sound and video, but to no avail. Clearing the CMOS did nothing as Windows is still unable to detect. I have the newest VGA drivers for my board I think and have tried deleting the onboard's driver's but still nothing has happened. Any Ideas anyone? All the parts are about 1 month old, including the PSU which is 400w only running mobo, HDD, and CR-RW.

You may not have the card completely seated. AGP cards require a firm hand. Also in the BIOS there should be a setting for the amount of memory to allot to onboard video. Set it to 0. If still not detected try using the find hardware wizard in control panel. One other thing that would probably help. Change the current display type to STD. VGA. That is on of the settings in the advanced video settings. ATI requires this anyway if you are upgrading your display. Which you are doing. If you have problems doing this post again and I will walk you thru.

Is it AGP Aperture Size I am looking for? It can only go down to 8mb. Hardware wiz does nothing. Can't figure out how to set display to standard VGA... Its seated on the m/b, I have done that countless times..

I found the setting for the onboard memory in BIOS, but when I set it to none, I get no screen at boot up and a series of *beeps*. When I plug the monitor cable into the radeon, it still gives me no picture. I also switched primary vid from PCI to AGP but it did nothing either.

Hi zuek:
Is you video card an 8x or 4x, make sure your motherboard is 8x computable if video card is 8x. An 8x slot can run a 4x & a 4x slot can run a 2x, make sure you don't put a 2x card in a 8x AGP slot or it might damage motherboard. Did you set AGP in bios, try you old on board video to see if it still works, if not you might have damaged motherboard. If on board video works then you could have a bad video card.

Good luck,
Z

I could not get my ATI radeon 9600 ultra card to work until i went to the ATI site and downloaded the new video card drivers. The disc that came with the card would not work. You need to download the new drivers to a disc from the ATI site and install your video card with them. Thats the only way i could get my Radeon video card to work.

You may have a motherboard jumper to enable/disable either the onboard or the AGP slot. Also Response #4 has a valid point. The voltage requirements for AGP 8x, 4x, 2x are different and not all Video cards support all voltages. Check your MB manual and the manual for the video card.

Still sounds like its not seated properly. New AGP cards on new MBs tend to be very tough to plug in. When pressing down it will snap once softly then again loudly (Ive actually seen people installing AGP cards where the MB cracked before the card seated they had to press that hard). Suffice it to say make sure the MB is securely mounted before trying dont go easy on it though.

Also the MB you are using is only rated for 4x AGP. If the card is 8x and wont do 4x then your up a creek.

I have a P3 800EB clocked at 920Mhz on an Asus CUSL2-C mobo and just added a Gecube Radeon 9600XT Extreme and find that it will only run at AGP 2x. The mobo is rated for 4x and thus I am confused too. Is there something wrong with my card? My PSU is Aopen 300w and should be fine to run such a system. What is the solution? Any ideas?

I am experiencing both the issues on this thread with my two computers. My L7VMM3comp (512mb Samsung pc3200, 30gb Maxtor, 420W Enermax PSU) is getting the issue with a ti4200, I have tried everything and have yet to figure it out. I am certain the AGP is seated correctly, as I build and sell systems. Also my dual cpu system : GA7DPXDW dual MP2200+'s 1gig Corsair pc2100 with a 680W Enermax PSU and a Nvidia 5600XT (NV31) will only run in AGP 2x mode. I cannot run it in 4x eventhough the card is supposed to run in 4x mode. I can run the 4200 from the ECS comp in 4x mode perfectly fine. (Example of issue: TI4200 gets 410FPS in Medal of Honor at 4x mode, FX5600 gets 432FPS in Medal of Honor at 2x mode (now you see why I want 4x on it eh =).
I have the FX5600 out to my RMA and will post back when I get a reply from them about it.
