What is meant when it says geforce fx 5500 128MB? I have never bought a video card before.

Gforce is the manufacture. FX 5500 is the Model Number and 128Mb means that it has 128Mbs of Video RAM on board which is good.

You can get better, but depending on what your requirments are, 128Mbs will serve most purposes.
