lately i got a new video card FX5500, i installed it and there is nothing on the screen. But when i reinstalled my old card (nvidia 64mb), it all works again. I read the user manual and followed the instructions to update the latest AGP driver for my VIA motherboard. It is still not working.

Can anyone please help? thank you.

ok first is your old video a card or is it integrated video? If its integated did you disable the onboard video support in the bios. as i had to do with my PCI version of your card to make it work.

you probably just need to flash your bios. abit motherboards run into this alot so others probably do as well.

Hi
its probably a driver issue rather than anything elsecheck the motherboard manufacturers web site to see if there are a required bios update, otherwise things can get messy

, have you installed the VIA AGP driver see Via driver hyperion package read 1st here:
http://www.tweakguides.com/Hyperions.html

download:
http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2&OSID=1

& make sure you uninstall all previous graphic card drivers
in control panel, system ,hardware, device manager, right click uninstall old card.

what agp speed rating is the motherboard x2x4 or x8?

to flash it you need to go to the motherboard manufacturer's website and download the bios update. there will be instructions there w/step by step to follow. hopefully it will have one you can run within windows but it may not as those are usually on newer boards. you'l probably need to put the files on a floppy, boot to it, and update the bios.

1stepbeyond, if it were a driver, he would have a display. it would be in 640X489X256 color but he would be able to see it. drivers do not have anything at all to do with this.

Hi
imo 1st point of call would be a old driver issue
then check for bios 'assign irq 'for vga.
old kt133 via motherboards were often showing this issue and i did specify checking the motherboard manufacturer for any bios issues support, i wouldnt jump straight to flashing a bios.
old via 4in1 drivers can cause this issue the fx5500 is x4x8 agp so unless he has a very olde mobo swapping it shouldnt have caused the issue.
Could be a bad card..
more info was needed.

1stepbeyond - the reason I went straight to the bios is I have seen this exact issue twice. if you put a video card in and the monitor will not even come on, it isnt the drivers. A driver problem on video would still allow you to boot to standard vga, this one isnt even showing the POST which doesnt use windows drivers.

It also happened to me....if nothing works try making a boot disk and downloading the vgabios.exe & nvflash.exe utilities, these are easy to find and youll find the instructions there too, you will need to copy those in the boot disk and run blindly the vgabios.exe file, suddenly your monitor will turn on...and dont forget to copy the bios into the disk, i think its the 4.34.??.???, any of those will work for your card, use the nvflash.exe utility to flash the bios, tell me if you need something i`ll mail it to you

Just trying to help
