I have a Samsung 22" wide screen LCD monitor 226wb. Is there a video card that will allow a non stretched video at other resolutions other than the native. The native is 1680 X 1050. I would like to have a normal proportanal picture at 1280 X 1024 or 1024 X 768. I am older and my eyes don't see that fine text very well. Like my wide screen TV I can get a picture with black bars on the side and a normal picture. Your help would be appreciated.

You need to update your video card drivers so that you get the WS resolutions as a option in Display Settings. I just looked up your specs at the HP website. If you're still running the integrated ATI Xpress 200, here's the drivers:

EDIT: Sorry, I may have misunderstood your question. You really should be running the native resolution...anything other than that & things will most likely become distorted, especially text & icons. But there are settings that can be changed to enlarge the fonts & icons while still keeping the native resolution:

Sorry, many of us old fogies have the same problem. But you can't vary the resolution like you would like to do and maintain the proportions. Going from 1680 X 1050 to 1024 x 768 is gonna squash the picture horizontally and it's just a fact of life. There is no way that I know of to get around it, short of cutting off part of the picture on the left and right sides, or letterboxing.

I'll have to be dragged kicking and screaming into switching to an LCD wide screen monitor. :-)

Why don't you just keep with 1680 X 1050 resolution and adjust your font size DPI in "control panel"

I am 63 years old and I use a Samsung 22" 225bw @ 1680x1050 32bit, and have absolutely no problems with the way anything looks.

As was stated you need to update your drivers and install the drivers that came with the monitor. Also try using cleartype. It may help further.
