Hi, my cousin's video card just died (don't know the reason cause I never used his comp) and now I need to get a new video card to replace it... specs below

P54 2.6Ghz 800Mhz FSB Northwood
Asus P4S800D
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=12&l3=45&model=202&modelmenu=1
Kingston 512MB DDR400Mhz (No duel channel)

What's a good video card? I need an 4X/8X AGP video card. Thanks

You're making the right move if you buy a 6600GT AGP. The 6600GT will run your games at 1280 x 1024 without any flaws. It is a solid product, GDDR3, has eight pipelines, and is the only GPU in its class supporting next-gen DirectX 9.0c Shader Model 3.0. Priced at between US$130 and US$180 right now in the American market, it is the 'sweet spot' for the balance of performance and price.

My advice ... I would purchase the BFG Technologies 6600 GT OC 128MB AGP 8x. It is the *only* factory-overclocked VGA in the 6600 or 6600 GT class. It is clocked at 525/1050 MHz as compared to all other 6600GT's which are 500/1000. It is also the only GPU coming with a lifetime warranty.

Also, big help would be to up his RAM from 512KB to 1.0 gig.

Something you need to be aware of is the 6600GT (& other performce video cards) has to plug into the PSU, so make sure there's adequate amperage on the +12v rail or you may have to upgrade that as well. Also, over in the gaming forum, someone mentioned that the X700 PRO is gonna be on sale for $100 (after rebate) on Fri...not sure if it's at CompUSA or BestBuy. You might wanna look into that

This space for rent

I am thinking bout spending around 80 or less USD for the video card, I do not want to spend 130+ for it since it's an old comp... Any other thoughs?

X700 pro is PCIe
