Alright, I've been having extensive problems with what seems to be a compatibility issue between my video card, motherboard, and the VIA chipset. I have a Asus A7V333 motherboard, and a Gainward GeForce4 Ti4600 vid card. I recently formatted and reinstalled windows 2000 and downloaded all of the updates, updated the video drivers and installed the newest VIA 4 in 1 chipset drivers. I immediately found that if I tried to play any 3d video, the computer freezes, except for the mouse, and I have to restart with the reset button. I tried uninstalling the video drivers and when I rebooted, 3D video worked, but of course it was in 16 colors. When I reinstalled the video drivers it again failed like before. I then went and reformatted and reinstalled windows 2000. I started with the video drivers and then went on to the windows drivers. Everything worked great, UT2003 ran great for about a week. Today I decided to test whether it was just a random fault in my previous windows install, or the VIA drivers. I installed the latest VIA drivers, and again the same problem. I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea how to fix this problem. I've tried just about everything, old drivers of both, mixed with new drivers of both. I know the hardware is not at fault, but it could be a compatibility problem w/ my motherboard because my video card works in my fathers computer (he has an MSI motherboard with a VIA chipset) and I plugged my video card in a friends computer who has the same motherboard as me, and the same problem occurs there. Tomorrow I'm gonna try reformating again, and installing the VIA chipset drivers first, followed by the nvidia drivers. Hopefully this will tell me whether its a compatibility issue between the video card and the chipset, or a windows 2000 fault. But I really need some other ideas because I'm out of them, and I'm on the verge of being desperate here. Thanks.
