VGA Card ( nvidia gforce fx5200)

Specs: Windows vista, intel 3.46
I have installed a geforce fx 5200 ppci 256meg graphics card (pci) in a compaq presario with a livemore sr5002hm board an vista 32. sometimes it will boot to the new card but rarely. it usually wants to boot to the on board video. when it does boot to the New card it works fine and all is good. the problem is before windows starts. i get no display during post unless i plug into the onboard. it does not matter what i set the bios to. my only choices are pci, pcie or onboard. my bios is ami. thanks for your time.

Is the new card PCI or PCIe x16 based? (the type of slot it is installed in)

If a PCI based card you must set the BIOS to boot from that card as opposed to the integrated graphics.

I've gotta ask - why would you buy a PCI card rather than PCIe & why on
earth would you buy a lowly FX5200? I can only guess it was cheap. Hopefully it was extremely cheap, like $5-10?
