I have a problem with my LCD; vertical, colored lines! I bought another LCD from the same model Presario that was working and have the same problem. Tried switching the Inverter also. The only thing I haven't replaced is the LCD Ribbon and those are expensive, even on Ebay! Could this be the culprit? It works fine on an external monitor, by the way.

If it works win an external monitor then the video memory should be OK. Vertical lines may mean the column decoder driver may have failed or the cable could have a bad connection. Is the lines exactly the same width and the same number of lines apart?

The lines seem to be the same width, all across the screen. I checked the LCD Ribbon connections and they seem to be fully seated. The replacement LCD even came with a Ribbon cable too & I didn't have any better luck using that one either. I don't know what a column decoder driver is though, one of the last Updates from MS was for the video and I got all excited thinking that would do it, but apparently not. I spoke to a couple of places that repair laptops & explained this to them & they were fairly sure that the on board video wasn't bad, since I can use an external monitor. I was afraid that it was in the board and not worth replacing.

The column decoder driver is a hardware device, not a software driver. The signal to the external video connector and the LCD is entirely different, although they both come from the video card.

If you can change you LCD display size, try it and note if the pattern changes.
