Specs: Windows 7
Hi,
I have a Acer 4710Z 14.1" Laptop that i purchased in Dec 2007. One day while working, the laptop started showing vertical lines. i shut it off thinking that it may caused due to over heating since i was running programs on it for 6 hours. later when i restarted in multiple times it kept showing the vertical lines. I showed it to the Acer service center they said that the problem is with the LCD and it needs to be changed.
Since their replacement chargeds were exhorbitant i decided to take a look in the open market. After few days when i went looking for lcd in the market, one of the vendors restarted the laptop to check and it started properly.
I brought it home without replacement and worked on it for quite a few hours. next day when i restarted it again the same vertical lines appeared.

Please help me diagnose the problem. is it the gfx card or the LCD.

You can connect an external monitor with the Laptop and see the display. If vertical line also come in external monitor that means there is the problem with Laptop's motherboard.
If there are no any vertical lines that means there is the problem with LCD or LCD cable.

Well it might be the GFX if you really had change the LCD . But try to change the connector of the LCD form the board. It migh be also been damage. But to make sure ask for the technician that you had gone to have fool computer components checked. Your board might had some burned components or damaged board.

Thanks for the reply,
I am going to test that tomorrow after my exams.
In the case (1) if my GFX card is gone, what do i do and in case of (2) if the cable of LCD is a problem then why does it work good some times (for hours) before again showing the veritcal line problem.

I will let u know what happens when i connect to the external moniter.

Well if the GFX is already broken then try to ask your technician if it's need to be changed or can be fixed.

Hello fellow helpers,

I tested my laptop with an external moniter and it was working fine.

so i went in the open market and got my LCD replaced since there was no way the technician could help me detect whether i can fix the lcd problem without replacing it (may be fixing it was not in his best interest, selling a new LCD is lot easier and more money then fixing the old one )

anyways i guess my laptop is back in action

I willl keep u guys posted if anything happens

Thanks for all the help so far
