Comment:

I have vertical colored lines multiplying on my screen at the rate of about 1 per day. They appear even during boot-up and at any screen setting. They are very thin and different colors...random spacing. I actually saw one blinking as it was forming! Is this a virus, hardware, or driver problem? Any ideas for a fix? Thanks!

let us know if you have crt or lcd monitor.
have you tried a different monitor to prove if it is monitor or pc.
sound like the kind of thing which is often faulty (unrepairable) graphics card, you could try removing and reseating the graphics card, and checking if it's cooling properly (caked in dust?)

Have you been to the Toshiba site?

Will it work properly with an external
monitor?

street1 has the best advice. If the lines also appear on the external monitor, then it's the video card, which cannot be replaced because it is integrated to the motherboard. Replacing motherboards on laptops can be expensive unless it warranteed. If the lines don't appear on the external monitor, then the problem lies with the LCD display. Also expensive except if it's warranteed.

Good luck.

The fact that it occurs during the boot sequence makes me think it's a problem with the LCD or cable rather then the graphics adapter. The adapters run in a different mode during the boot then they do when in windows.
