ok, heres an odd problem. first, i have 2 identical versa LX laptops. i got them both at the same time, and initially, both displays worked. today i tried to turn one on (hereby known as the 'bad' laptop) and the display didnt turn on, but it continued loading windows.

so i figured it was the LCD, so i took the LCD off the bad laptop and attached it to the good laptop, and it worked. so no problem with the LCD. i made sure to check its cables and stuff, but since it works on the good laptop using the same cables, i know its not them.

next i tried hooking up an external monitor to the bad laptop, and that worked too.

so my question is, what happened to the laptop in the space of 2 days that causes the tested, functional lcd not to display anything at all, but an external monitor still works? i didnt drop it or anything, its been in the exact same spot the whole time. on my desk, not on a heating vent or something.

thanks,
Dave

The reason your lap top gets video is cause, the lap top has a option where you can have a external monitor such has the one you probably use for ur Desk Top (pc). Even thought the lcd screen on the lap top can still be broken and a external monitor will work cause you have a female serial video port. Witch does not interfer when u hook up a monitor to ur PC! It comes from the back of the lap top witch the (v)female video port is intergrated with the video card and the broken LCD is also connect to the v card witch once you have a external monitor you are able to get display.
