I have an old vectra 520C2 and when it boots the floppy light stays lit and it shows a black screen with a line blinking at the top left corner. The hard drive is detected but the cd-rom isn't. I switched IDE cables so I know thats not it. I even tried 3 cd-roms so thats not the problem. I installed windows 98 on the hard drive from another computer so its workin. The hard drive is a Maxtor 10GB. It just won't boot into windows and I don't know what else to do.

If the floppy drive light stays on, that could indicate that someone has installed the floppy drive cable incorrectly.

I put in a boot disk and it won't boot. When there is no floppy in the drive the light goes off. The only time it will boot from floppy is when the HDD is not detected then I run fdisk and repartition and reboot and goes back to the blank screen.

I fixed it!!! The problem was the Maxtor hard drive. I had to change the number of heads in the bios. Thanks.
