Hello,

I am experiencing various blue stop screens. This normally occurs when I access a program on the desktop. How can I identify these error codes or is this an indication that my motherboard is failing. I have had these conditions before which related to memory problems. Since then both memory cards (128mb) have been replaced.

The only other anomily I am experiencing is my computer making a strange noise which sounds like a whizzing noise. I think this could be the cooling fan on the processor, but I am unsure.

Please advise on what could be going wrong.

Your help is much appreciated.

Find out what is making the wizzing noise. If it is the cooling fan it could mean that its on its last legs. If the fan is running slower than it should be then the CPU could be overheating. That would explain your blue screen crashes.

If the noise is comming from the disk drive then that could be failing. Also another possible cause.

A doctors stethascope is a good tool to use for detecting the source of unusual noises from a computer.

You could elimate by diagnostics the possability of a hard drive by going to the manufacturer's web site such as Western Digital or Maxtor and downloading a disk analyzer. Most HD companies have diagnostic software you can download to check on HD. If fan is slowing down the heat build up could cause it, as well as a Power supply getting ready to go and causing intermittent voltage changes which would cause various problems on your system as well.
