Vaio VGN-CR22G broken screen bios change

Vaio / Vgn cr22g

Specs: Vista, Pentium 1.6GHz dual core / 1GB
Sadly this laptop has a broken screen. I want to update the bios but this seems impossible as the external screen does not work until windows has loaded. The BIOS info is displayed on the laptop screen and does not respond to F7! Is there any way of forcing the laptop to use the external screen exclusively?
Many thanks.

Why do you want to update the BIOS?
You should only do this if the update addresses a specific problem you are having. A BIOS update can fail for a variety of reasons even if you do everything right. A failed update is a very serious matter, particularly on a laptop. In many cases the only recovery is replacing the motherboard, which is often just as costly as a new computer.

This forum has many stories of failed BIOS updates. Most of them do not have happy endings.

Thanks for reply: good question!
I was wanting to allow it to boot linux from USB stick when wanted. No other tampering!
