Specs: Windows 7, 1GB Ram
Hi All.. I am in a deep mess! My VAIO- VGN series is giving me great trouble. The screen had some multiple lines which now is a big mess. the screen is dancing and the multiole colored lines are creating huge distraction. Cant view a bit of thing. I am worried of the expense.
The VAIO laptop has been giving me so many issue. Earlier i got the Processor Fan repaired during the month of Mar2011 but thankfully i wasnt charged for the same since that series had some Processor Fan issues! What do i do now? Since it was my brothers gift, i do not have the bill or the previous repair bill. Shall i claim for a free service, since many VAIO laptop users suffer with the same issue????

Plug an external monitor into the VGA port of the laptop. You may need to switch the displays for your laptop to display to the external. To do this you will need to press the Fn key and the relevant key on your keyboard to switch displays.

Once you have done this, if your external monitor DOESNT do the same as you laptop then it means that you have a screen and inverter issue. Cost is around £60 to £80 and fairly easy to do yourself.

if the external monitor DOES the same as your laptop then most likes have a grpahics card problem which is way more expensive and not somthing you can do yourself.

This should be your first approach, let us know what happens, and hoepfully we can advise further.

Hi buddy! I tried doing what you instructed me to and as you specified it worked with the external monitor. I could view the screen there with the help of the VGA cable. Now as per your suggestion i suppose its gona be heavy on my pockets to spend money and get this thing repaired so i planned to use my lappy as it is, further, by buying a new LCD monitor and connecting it similarily.
Would it be wise to do so?

If you need to use the laptop around the house and/or outside then i would suggest you buy a new screen and inverter. If you are at all good with DIY you couold install this yourself, otherwise id suggest you send it to a repair shop. If you are based in the UK East London area id do it for you :)

a new screen and inverter should only cost you around £100.
